What Is

What is an gypsum rotary kiln?

A gypsum rotary kiln is particularly engineered, rotating cylindrical shaped furnace used for calcinations of gypsum. Basically it is fed in the kiln in it’s dehydrate form [CaSO₄•2H₂O] and heated gradually to remove its chemically bound water. This dehydration transforms gypsum into calcium sulfate hemihydrates [commonly known as plaster of Paris] or the other forms of calcined gypsum which is used in different construction materials.

Advantages

Advantages of gypsum rotary kiln

Adaptive Process Control for Customization

Its operating parameters such as temperature, rotation speed, and residence time particularly customizer for specific needs of industries, this advantage allows every manufacturer to produce different kinds of calcined gypsum including plaster of Paris and anhydrite, or any other outcomes based on specific industrial requirements.

Superior Energy Optimization System

The kiln is well-engineered for high-efficiency insulation and heat recovery mechanisms with minimizing heat loss and best possible fuel consumption which ultimately results in significant cost saving and reducing carbon foot print.

Multi-Feedstock Compatibility

It is capable of producing a variety of raw materials, including natural gypsum, synthetic gypsum [FED gypsum], and last but not least phosphogypsum. This meets the industrial conditions that are looking for alternative feedstocks without compromising on production quality.

Eco-Friendly Operation with Emission Control

Integrated emission management techniques do not permit harmful gas to be discharged, providing compliance with government regulations and environmental considerations. This makes the gypsum rotary kiln a sustainable option for industries that are actively concentrated on reducing their footprint.

Continuous Large-Scale Production Capability

Unlike regular kilns which shut down automatically when overused, our rotary kilns are designed by expert engineers to support non-stop operations, and promoting higher production volumes while simultaneously maintaining consistent quality. This advantage makes them perfect for large-scale industrial applications, such as drywall and cement manufacturing.

Principle

Gypsum rotary kiln working principle

  • The working principle of a gypsum rotary kiln begins with feeding raw gypsum (CaSO₄•2H₂O) in the shell at a controlled rate. As the kiln rotates, the gypsum inside also revolves gradually along with its length, experiencing increasing temperature of the shell.
  • Afterwards, inside the kiln material are fully exposed to high temperatures ranging from [900-1200°C] which separate the chemically bound water and gypsum. This dehydration process converts the raw gypsum into calcium sulfate hemihydrates (CaSO₄•½H₂O), known as plaster of Paris, or into anhydrite (CaSO₄).
  • This continuous rotation ensures uniform heat circulation prevents materials from clumping and provides constant calcinations. After the calculations, this hot processed gypsum then moves towards the end of the kiln, where it enters into a cooling system, generally a rotary cooler or a fluidized bed cooler to preserve its outcomes.
  • This entire process is controlled via an automated system (PLC-based) for full command over temperature, residence time, and rotation speed, providing premium quality output with minimal energy usage and emission.
