Principle

Working Principle of Calcium Aluminate Rotary Kiln

  • Raw Material Feeding : Crushed, pre-mixed materials are fed into the upper end of the inclined rotary kiln, optionally via a preheater.
  • Heating & Calcination : As the kiln rotates (0.5–2 rpm), materials move downward. The burner heats the kiln to 1200–1600°C. CaCO₃ decomposes to CaO; Al₂O₃ reacts with CaO to form calcium aluminate phases (CA, CA₂, C₁₂A₇).
  • Clinkering : At peak temperature, molten/semi-molten clinker forms and begins to solidify into nodules.
  • Cooling : Hot clinker is rapidly cooled in a rotary or grate cooler, stabilizing the mineral phases and recovering heat.
  • Automation & Control : A PLC system controls temperature, speed, and fuel for efficient, stable operation.
  • Mechanical Function : Rotation ensures even heating and mixing.Incline helps material flow.Refractory lining protects against heat and wear.
